Know Your Website Business Plan for the Global Market Place

The face of  business has changed somewhat in recent years to a very global market place. Moving forward  to the internet from scratch with a simple and very focused small business can be quite profitable online. The internet has definitely made it easier to start your own business even if it is small.

Here is a quick run-down of things to keep in mind when deciding where to start.

A Service Business - You could provide a service such as, writing for pay, to people all over the world.  Ideally, you’ll want a business is not only online, but also provides a local service. If people can find you online, there is a good chance you will get a customer lead out of it.

Here is an example that happened to me recently. I was needing to find a hotel in the city of Saskatoon and I did not have their phone book, either.  I turned to the internet and looked online to book a room in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I could see exactly where the hotel was to the hospital from Google maps.

It works the same with any service business if you’re providing a service that is in high demand. People need to find you. People in need of high demand services are looking online more for local businesses to fill their needs. This includes everything from catering, to fill-in-pastors, to lawn care. (Well that’s no holiday).

Selling retail - This is just too easy of a place to start an online business and make money right off the bat. There is a lot of places to find wholesale products for selling retail, just search “wholesale” with your item. When a friend of mine started online with eBay, they would simply walk though Wal-mart looking for items that were on sale, small unique products, or things that would sell well online. They did quite well until the fees on eBay rose so high that it took the profit away. This did not slow my friend down, though. They took my advice and went to the websites full time. Websites are where the profits are higher because the expenses are lower. My advice is to use eBay to get customers that will come back, not to focus on eBay for your big profits. E-Bay is a very good spot to begin online in learning your shipping and how to deal with customers. Then move to the websites that have a much bigger profit-upside and more income stems, like Adsense, ebooks, or downloadable software. Yet keep your physical product as the core of your business, if you want the choice is there.

Wholesale - Selling products wholesale maybe a bit trickier. For the most part there is a big cash order involved to get a price that makes it profitable to resale again wholesale, and yet stay competitive. But you never know if a deal is there or not if you don’t pick up the phone and find out prices and minimum orders. The thing is though, if you sell retail first, the wholesalers will often find you. They will want you to sell their products and cut a deal with you.

Selling ad space on your website like Adsense - Having ads on you website is kind of like a flea market were other venders pay you to have their little spot for their booth on your property. If you like to write content for your site and you don’t want to go with physical products, then ads may be right for you. I suggest the ebook the adsence sniper.

Make and sell your own product - This would be profitable and challenging to the creative mind but not out of reach for you or me when it comes to online. It is definitely worth a second look anyway.

Go with path that makes the most sense for your time, money, desires, and interests .
